Although the Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires companies to provide health insurance benefits, Illinois does not. Health care mandates do not apply to all companies. If your small business has fewer than 50 full-time employees, you do not have to provide them with health insurance. Businesses with five employees or more can sign up for Sana plans.

Choosing the correct type of coinsurance, deductibles, and maximum out-of-pocket levels will also affect your expenses (and your employees').

The cost of employee benefits can be deducted from your small business federal tax filings, and you may qualify for a tax credit.
